Brief History of the Federación

In 1995 Mr. Ricardo Carranza had the vision to start an organization made up of clubs from his native state of Zacatecas. In this way, the Federación de Clubes Unidos Zacatecanos en Illinois was formed with the clubs El Parral, Adjuntas del Refugio, Los Aparicios, Yerba Buena and Vicente Escudero.

Later several other clubs joined the Federación. In 1997, when Mr. Asención Salinas took charge as President, the idea of having a proper residence for the Federacion's activities was on everyone's mind.

Thus began the negotiations for acquiring a building in the city of Chicago, in an area accessible to the members of the clubs. Under the leadership of Mrs. Rosalva Ruiz, President of the Federación at the time, and with the cooperation of the Government of the state of Zacatecas and the Governor, Lic. Ricardo Moreal Avila, the purchase of a building became a reality. The building was named "Centro Cultural Zacatecano". It has since served as the offices of the Federacion's administration.
